MCCAW/CELLULAR ONE UNVEILS NEW TECHNOLOGY

VoiceTouch System is Cellular Industry's First
 System-Wide Voice Dialing Service
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- VoiceTouch, a new service that allows cellular users to dial a cellular phone by speaking the name or phone number of the person they wish to call, is now available to Cellular One subscribers in Western Pennsylvania, the company announced today.
This hands-free service is simple to use and offers customers added safety and convenience without the need for additional equipment or installation.
To access the service, the customer presses the (pound)(SEND) keys on their cellular phone. After saying "CALL," users then speak any of 20 preprogrammed phone numbers. Users may also say "DIAL" and speak any telephone number in the United States. VoiceTouch permits callers to begin a new call without hanging up and pressing additional keys.
"I was surprised at the difference," said Dr. Jennifer Burkhart, a Cellular One customer who agreed to test the service. "VoiceTouch gives me more control. I don't have to look at the phone to ensure I entered the phone number correctly before initiating the call. VoiceTouch will confirm it and initiate it for me. Now I can concentrate on the road and actually get even more productivity out of my cellular service. VoiceTouch is incredibly convenient."
Available to Cellular One customers only, VoiceTouch works with any existing cellular phone because the voice recognition technology is implemented at Cellular One's switch, or central communications system. "This next generation technology is another example of how Cellular One is leading the field in introducing services that allows customers to take the value and convenience of cellular communications one step farther," said Mark Uminski, Cellular One's director of business development. "We are pleased to be the exclusivr?ovider of such an innovative service."
