 MCAULIFFE NAMED VICE PRESIDENT-EXTERNAL RELATIONS
 BETHLEHEM, Pa., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mary E. McAuliffe has been


elected vice president-external relations, effective Dec. 1, Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE: UNP) announced today.
 McAuliffe, 45, succeeds Kip Hawley, who has served in that capacity since 1987 and is moving to Omaha to become vice president- transportation services of Union Pacific Railroad. McAuliffe will be based in Union Pacific's Washington office.
 She joined Union Pacific in January 1989 as director-Washington affairs, transportation and tax. Prior to that she served on Capitol Hill for 19 years in a number of capacities, including staff director of the Senate Finance Committee and senior counsel for the Senate Commerce Science and Transportation Committee. In announcing the appointment, Union Pacific Chairman Drew Lewis said, "Washington is very important to the future of this corporation, and, with Mary McAuliffe's background and ability, we will continue to be well-served in that area."
 Mike Rock will replace McAuliffe as director of Washington-affairs transportation in January 1992. Rock, 31, is now director of state relations for USPCI, the Houston-based environmental services subsidiary of Union Pacific.
 Rock was previously deputy director of Congressional relations at the Department of Transportation; before that, he served as a professional staff member on the House Public Works Committee.
 Sean O'Hollaren, formerly with the Senate Appropriations Committee staff, is the director responsible for environmental matters, and Jeff Fritzlen is the director responsible for resources issues. Sue Auther, who came to Union Pacific in September from the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, is the Washington office's legislative assistant.
 Union Pacific Corporation is headquartered in Bethlehem, and consists of five operating companies: Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Neb.; Union Pacific Resources in Fort Worth, Texas; Overnite Transportation in Richmond, Va.; USPCI in Houston; and Union Pacific Realty in Dallas.
