 MCA HIGHLIGHTS $400 MILLION EXPANSION
AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS IN FLORIDA AND HOLLYWOOD
SAN FRANCISCO, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- MCA Recreation Services which operates the No. 1 motion picture themed attractions in the world, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida (a joint venture with The Rank Organisation), has invested $200 million in attractions and facilities in 1991-92 and will invest an additional $200 million in the next year.
During a convention of 4,500 international travel and tourism leaders, the Travel Industry Association's (TIA) 24th Annual Discover America International Pow Wow in San Francisco, Ron Bension, president of MCA Recreation Services Group said, "MCA's investment is one of the largest expenditures this year in the tourism industry." In addition to Universal's continuing tradition of world renowned special effects attractions, Bension emphasized Universal Studios' commitment to broadening children's attractions pointing to Universal Studios' new attractions including Fievel's Interactive Playland, The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show and the rock n' roll themed Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue.
Noting this summer's premiere of the "Backdraft" attraction, a re-creation of Ron Howard's blockbuster motion picture, and the 1993 Universal Studios Hollywood debut of the greatest ride of all time, "Back To The Future," next year's spectacular "Jaws" attraction at Universal Studios Florida and the recently opened "Lucy: A Tribute," Bension said, "The studios continue to be unequaled in motion picture themed fun and excitement for people of all ages."
Universal Studios Hollywood is the original behind-the-scenes look at the film and television industry. For more than a quarter of a century, Universal Studios Hollywood has become the master of presenting movies three-dimensionally and has hosted 75 million guests to the famed Universal lot where some of history's greatest motion pictures and television shows were produced and continue to be filmed. With such attractions as "Earthquake -- The Big One," "King Kong," "Star Trek Adventure" and "Miami Vice Spectacular," Universal Studios Hollywood attracts over five million guests annually.
Universal Studios Florida is a spectacular and technologically advanced movie-themed attraction. The 444-acre studio attraction provides guests the opportunity to "ride the movies," including such favorites as "Back To The Future...The Ride," "E.T. Adventure," "Earthquake" and "Kongfrontation." The newest attractions include "Fievel's Playland," "Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue," "Lucy: A Tribute" and "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show." Director and Producer Steven Spielberg serves as creative consultant to this spectacular entertainment complex which is a joint venture between MCA Inc. and The Rank Organisation. Universal Studios Florida takes visitors beyond the screen and into the world of television and film -- to "ride the movies."
Universal Studios Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood and American Telephone and Telegraph are principal co-sponsors of Pow Wow 1992. Pow Wow is the number one business meeting for increasing tourism from international markets, generating between 1.4 and 1.9 billion in inbound travel in just three business days.
