MCA FILES AMENDED COMPLAINT AGAINST BOSTON VENTURES AND MOTOWN FOR DAMAGES IN EXCESS OF $75 MILLION

MCA FILES AMENDED COMPLAINT AGAINST BOSTON VENTURES
AND MOTOWN FOR DAMAGES IN EXCESS OF $75 MILLION
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was issued today by the MCA Music Entertainment Group:
The MCA Music Entertainment Group today filed an amended cross complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court against Boston Ventures and Motown for damages in excess of $75 million.
This amended cross complaint contains new allegations that Boston Ventures' and Motown's reckless transition of distribution and manufacturing to Polygram caused, among other results, loss of sales and unnecessary harm to Motown's artists. MCA also alleges that Boston Ventures and Motown further hurt Motown and its artists by accepting a below-market international deal from Polygram in order to obtain the domestic deal they desired. The new cross complaint further alleges that the assignment to Motown by MCA of its valuable recording agreements with Diana Ross, The Boys and Johnny Gill, among others, should be rescinded and the artists transferred back to MCA because of Motown's wrongful actions. The cross complaint goes on to allege that Motown negligently destroyed evidence to pop promotion efforts supporting Motown Records.
The filing today amends the lawsuit MCA filed against Boston Ventures and Motown in May 1991 that alleged that Boston Ventures, a venture capital firm with a history of "flipping" its investments in as short a time as possible, engaged in a systematic scheme to change its contractual arrangements relating to Motown in order to improve its financial position. The amended cross complaint further details how Boston Ventures and Motown have schemed to deprive MCA of its partnership and contract rights.
