 MAZDA MOTOR CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW TOP MANAGEMENT
 FLAT ROCK, Mich., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Mazda Motor Corporation (MC) today announced that Mr. Norimasa Furuta has been named vice-chairman of the company and will move from his post as president. Mr. Yoshihiro Wada will move from his post as executive vice-president to become the corporation's new president. Mr. Keniichi Yamamoto will continue as chairman.
 Mr. Furuta served as Mazda's president for four years after taking the office in December 1987. Under Mr. Furuta's leadership the company in 1988 initiated the Mazda Innovation Plan, which was aimed at revitalizing the entire organization.
 Mr. Wada joined Mazda Motor Corporation (then Toyo Kogyo) in 1983 and became executive vice-president in 1985. Prior to joining Mazda, Mr. Wada worked for Sumitomo Bank, Ltd. for 28 years.
 Mr. Wada said, "The overall automotive business climate is very complex, which is due to factors such as increasingly diversifying customer needs, trading issues and growing social acknowledgement of environmental issues and safety requirements."
 He added, "With the solid foundation of further strengthening our product line, while continuing to pursue customer satisfaction, we at Mazda will devote our efforts to increasing our position as a global auto manufacturer."
