MAZDA APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT TO RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS
                          IN NORTH AMERICA
    IRVINE, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda Motor Corp. (MC) has appointed Yutaka Hirose as president of Mazda Research and Development of North America Inc. (MRA) in Irvine.  His appointment is effective immediately.
    Hiroshi Ozeki, who was president of MRA, will return to Hiroshima, Japan where he has been named general manager, Information Systems Division, Mazda Motor Corp.  He joined MRA as executive vice president in 1988.
    As president of MRA, Hirose will be responsible for the overall operations of the company, including product planning, vehicle design and development, and local parts development.  MRA is one of four Mazda research and development operations worldwide, which includes centers in Hiroshima and Yokohama, Japan, as well as Oberursel, near Frankfurt, Germany.
    Hirose joins MRA from Mazda's Product Planning and Development Division, where he was the program manager for the Mazda MX-6/626 project.  He joined Mazda, then called Toyo Kogyo, in 1963.
    During his career with Mazda, Hirose has had extensive experience in product development and design, including a 10-year period during which he worked on rotary engine technology.
    Hirose holds a bachelors degree in engineering from Tokyo University.
