 MAZDA ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL MANAGEMENT CHANGES
IRVINE, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda Motor Corporation (MC)

today announced that Kazuo "Sonny" Sonoguchi, who had just been appointed deputy general manager of MC's Marketing and Sales Division for Parts and Accessories, will assume the position of president of Mazda Motor of America (MMA), effective immediately.
The appointment of Sonoguchi comes on the heels of a recent announcement by MC's board of directors that Toshio Wakiya would be promoted to the president's position. However, due to an unforeseen medical condition, Wakiya will remain near his home in Hiroshima, Japan, and continue in his former position as general manager of Marketing and Sales Division for North America. In addition, Wakiya will remain as a member of MC's board of directors.
Sonoguchi joined MMA in 1990 as group vice president and deputy general manager. He was recently named senior vice president of the company. Prior to that, he was vice president, corporate planning for Mazda Motor Manufacturing (USA) Inc., which builds Mazda MX-6 and 626 automobiles in Flat Rock, Mich.
A 29-year veteran of Mazda, Sonoguchi has served in the Office of International Business Development and the Office of Export Planning at Mazda's headquarters in Japan.
