MAYTAG NAMES HORSTMAN VICE PRESIDENT

 NEWTON, Iowa, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Douglass C. Horstman has been named vice president of government affairs for Maytag Corporation (NYSE: MYG), according to Leonard A. Hadley, chairman and CEO of the firm.
 Headquartered in McLean, Va., Horstman, formerly director of government affairs for Maytag, is responsible for organizing and directing the corporation's involvement in government affairs on national, state and international levels. He also serves as chairman of Maytag's political action committee, the Maytag Corporation Employees for Good Government Fund.
 Horstman began his association with Maytag in 1973 as the company's independent representative in Washington. In 1987 he was named government affairs counsel for the corporation.
 Active in several industry associations, Horstman is past chairman of the Government Relations Council of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. In addition, Horstman is Maytag's representative on various committees of the National Association of Manufacturers and he serves on the board of directors of the Appliance Industry-Government CFC Replacement Consortium, as well as the Alliance for Responsible CFC Policy.
 In addition to his work with these associations, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce as an industry advisor to the U.S. government on international trade negotiations. He has served on the board of directors of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry, and he is past chairman of the Iowa Group, an informal committee of Washington representatives of major Iowa companies.
 Horstman served in the U.S. Marine Corps and holds a bachelor's degree and an M.B.A. degree from George Washington University in Washington. He and his wife, Sondra, have two grown children and reside in Fairfax Station, Va.
