MAYTAG NAMES DOWNING AND RINEHART TO NEW POSITIONS

 NEWTON, Iowa, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert W. Downing and Jerry K. Rinehart have been named to new positions, effective April 15, according to Leonard A. Hadley, chairman and CEO of Maytag Corporation (NYSE: MYG).
 Downing has been named president of Dixie-Narco. The firm, headquartered in Williston, S.C., manufactures and markets soft drink vending machines, dollar bill acceptors, changers and foreign bank note acceptors. Downing succeeds Gerald J. Kamman, who has been named president of Maytag's Hoover Europe division.
 Downing is currently president of Maytag International, based in Chicago, which handles sales and licensing of corporate appliances and floor care brands in overseas markets. Prior to that assignment, he had been president of Maytag Financial Services Corporation, a position he held since 1987. Before joining Maytag Financial, he held several positions within the Magic Chef organization, including vice president of national parts and service for the Admiral division of Magic Chef and vice president of marketing and sales for Norge.
 Downing holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kansas State University, Hays, Kan.
 Succeeding Downing as president of Maytag International is Jerry K. Rinehart, who is currently vice president of marketing at Jenn-Air Company, Indianapolis.
 He began his career with Maytag Company in 1961 as a regional manager and held several positions in marketing, including manager of kitchen product sales. In 1982 he was named director of market development at Jenn-Air, a position he held until being named director of sales in 1984. He was named vice president of marketing for Jenn-Air in 1988 and he assumed his current position as vice president of marketing for the Jenn-Air and Magic Chef brands earlier this year.
 A native of Columbus, Ohio, Rinehart is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and holds a master's degree from New York University's School of Retailing.
