MAYTAG CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER TO RETIRE

 NEWTON, Iowa, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Jerry A. Schiller, 60, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Maytag Corporation, has announced he will retire from his current position and from Maytag's board of directors effective Oct. 31. A replacement has not yet been named.
 Schiller will continue to serve as a consultant to Maytag through 1994.
 Schiller joined Maytag Company in 1962 as manager of internal auditing. In 1975 he was promoted to assistant controller and in 1984 he became assistant vice president-financial. A year later he became vice president and chief financial officer and was elected to Maytag's board of directors.
 When Maytag's corporate staff was formed in 1986, Schiller became senior vice president and chief financial officer. He was named executive vice president in 1989. He also has served as treasurer of the board of trustees of the Maytag Corporation Foundation.
 A native of Rock Island, Ill., Schiller holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting from Augustana College, Rock Island.
 In June 1990, he received the Augustana Alumni Association's Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence in professional and civic endeavors.
 Schiller is married to the former Betty Fuller of Rock Island and they have six children.
