MAYNARD SHIPPING EZARC 4.0 SOFTWARE FOR THE IRWIN 9000 AND 7000 SERIES
LAKE MARY, Fla., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Maynard Electronics, an Archive(R) company, is now shipping a new release of its server-based Irwin(R) EzArc(R) backup software for Novell NetWare(A) LANs. The new EzArc Version 4.0 software incorporates a full complement of data management and network administrator productivity features.
EzArc Version 4.0 software, available as an NLM for the high- capacity Irwin 9000 Series 4mm DAT and 8mm helical scan backup systems and as a VAP for the Irwin 7000 Series data cartridge backup systems, now provides an "Auto Pilot" tape management facility for automated tape rotation, automatic disk grooming and disaster recovery, as well as a Tape Usage Database for ensuring tape integrity.
With the addition of an optional module, EzArc Version 4.0 software supports heterogeneous networks by complying with the Novell(A) Storage Management Services(A) (SMS) specification, which allows NetWare users to backup and restore DOS, OS/2 HPFS, NTS, FTAM, Macintosh(A) and UNIX(A) name spaces.
"With the new features of EzArc Version 4.0 software for data management, network administrators can streamline their backup procedures and tape libraries and implement a failsafe backup environment," said Greg Mangold, director of the Irwin Distribution Division of Maynard Electronics. "It is a powerful solution for LAN administrators requiring a complete backup application in a Novell environment.
The Auto Pilot data management facility of EzArc Version 4.0 software provides several powerful data management tools including: Automated Tape Rotation to maintain daily, weekly, monthly and yearly tapes, and a complete system backup history of "Grandfather, Father, Son" backups; Disk Grooming to automatically remove files not accessed during a specified time period; and a Disaster Recovery Feature which will rebuild all or part of a network by reading a stored database from tape.
The new Tape Usage Database in EzArc Version 4.0 software enables network administrators to make informed decisions about tape usage by maintaining comprehensive information on each tape -- including its time in use, corrected errors, and number of tape failure errors. Through the database, the system also alerts users to the need for periodic maintenance such as head cleaning.
The new features of EzArc Version 4.0 software enhance the system's ability to backup multiple distributed servers on a network, perform unattended backup of an entire server, deliver fast file access through a Quick File Access option and automatically duplicate file servers for improved network reliability.
EzArc Version 4.0 software is now shipping for all Irwin 9000 Series 4mm DAT and 8mm helical scan and Irwin 7000 Series data cartridge backup systems. Pricing for all Irwin 9000 and 7000 Series systems will remain at current retail levels, starting at $1,595. Current EzArc software end-users may order a Version 4.0 upgrade by calling Maynard's toll-free sales number 800-821-8782. Customers who purchased EzArc v.3.0a software on or after July 1, 1992 may receive a free software upgrade kit by providing proof-of-purchase to Maynard's sales department.
