 MAYNARD INTRODUCES FASTEST AND LARGEST
CAPACITY QUARTER-INCH TAPE DRIVE FOR UNIX SYSTEMS
LAKE MARY, Fla., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Maynard Electronics(R), Inc., an Archive(R) Company, today introduced the ArchiveST(TM) 1350 product, the fastest and largest capacity quarter-inch tape backup solution available for UNIX-based workstations and PCs. This SCSI-based product defines a new performance standard for workstation backup delivering 1.35GB of tape storage and a backup speed for RISC/System 6000 and NeXT workstations recorded at 35 MB/minute. This system will be demonstrated at the UniForum trade show (booth 2435), Jan. 22-24, in San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center.
"Workstation users today demand the best possible performance and capacity from their systems, and the ArchiveST 1350 product tops both categories. The ArchiveST 1350 product effectively doubles the industry reference speed for workstation backup. Thanks to a data transfer rate of 35MB/minute, the ArchiveST 1350 product can complete 1.35GB backup in under 40 minutes," said Bernie Wu, director of Maynard's Workstation Business Development group. "As a tape backup industry leader, Maynard provides the kind of support that high-performance users expect, including toll-free, 24-hour, person-to-person technical support and 48-hour turnaround of repairs."
Scheduled to begin shipping in March, the ArchiveST 1350 system supports IBM RISC/System 6000, SUN, NeXT, SCO, InterActive, and most other PC-based UNIX workstations using standard UNIX utilities such as TAR and CPIO. Available in both internal and external configurations, the ArchiveST 1350 will be demonstrated at UniForum on an IBM RISC/System 6000 workstation.
The ArchiveST product line offers four configurations: the ArchiveST 1350; the ArchiveST 250Q, a 250MB quarter-inch cartridge tape drive; the ArchiveST525Q, a 525MB quarter inch cartridge drive; and the ArchiveST 2000 DAT, a 2 GB 4mm DAT drive. The ArchiveST 1350 system reads and writes tapes in the QIC-1350 format and is backward read compatible with all 60, 150 and 525 MB quarter-inch tapes written in industry standard UNIX formats.
As part of a corporate commitment to workstations and PC-based UNIX customers, Maynard has a dedicated UNIX business unit including UNIX-trained customer support specialists, a toll-free technical support hotline, 24-hour electronic bulletin board service, and 24-hour person-to-person technical support. All Maynard products include a one-year warranty and a 48-hour repair policy for all in-warranty customer equipment (within the continental United States).
