MAYFLOWER HOTEL TO REMAIN OPEN DURING CHAPTER 11
PLYMOUTH, Mich., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mayflower Hotel

announced today that it will remain open during Chapter 11 reorganization. The owners of the Mayflower Hotel are overwhelmed by the positive reaction which immediately followed the announcement that Mayflower II has filed for Chapter 11.
After meeting with Mayflower employees and sharing the reasons for the debt restructuring with the community, partners Randy Lorenz, Scott Lorenz and Creon Smith and other family members have been deluged with expressions of concern and pledges of support.
"The phones have been ringing off the hook, with offers from customers asking: "What can we do to help?" said Hotel General Manager Creon Smith.
"The public outcry in support of the Mayflower is greatly appreciated," said Co-Partner Randy Lorenz. "The Mayflower has proudly served as the heartbeat of Plymouth for 65 years and will continue to do so with the much needed and appreciated support of the community."
Lorenz added, "Before making the announcement we felt very confident about the outcome. Today, after the outpouring of encouraging words, we are even more determined that the support of our employees and community the Mayflower will persevere through these difficult times and continue to remain open."
On Jan. 10, the Mayflower owners filed a Chapter 11 reorganization petition with the U.S. Federal Court. Chapter 11 provides a means for an on-going business to restructure its debt, and work out payment plans for all creditors while staying open.
"It means we will be able to continue to operate the Mayflower while restructuring our debt," stressed Smith. Business will be conducted as usual and we will continue to aggressively pursue our market goals."
The partners explained that the Chapter 11 filing was prompted by: 1) a need to refinance its mortgage debt; 2) an overbuit hotel industry in metro Detroit; and 3) the present economic downturn.
