MAYFLOWER CONTRACT SERVICES PURCHASES NORTH CAROLINA FIRM

 OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Mayflower Contract Services Inc. (MCS), the passenger service subsidiary of Mayflower Group Inc., today purchased CTS Management Co., a Wilmington, N.C. firm that provides 1.4 million passenger trips annually for elderly and disabled people in North Carolina.
 "CTS Management has established an enviable reputation for reliable, courteous service and professionalism in meeting the unique needs of their customers and passengers," said Michael L. Smith, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Mayflower Group. "This purchase expands MCS' geographic reach, adds management depth and provides access to proprietary computerized dispatch systems that we may adapt for use nationally."
 This acquisition builds on MCS' position as the nation's leading private paratransit operator," Smith added.
 CTS Management currently operates more than 200 vehicles, employs more than 250 people and generates annual revenues of $4.5 million.
 The companies completed the transaction today. Financial terms were not disclosed.
 John Eaton and Huck Venters of Wilmington started CTS Management in 1982 with a single facility and one contract to provide service to Onslow County, N.C. Both partners held other jobs until the mid-80s when the business grew rapidly. Today, it provides service to 14 North Carolina counties and, in 1992, its vehicles traveled more than three million miles. Eaton and Venters will remain with MCS as consultants.
