MAYANK JAIN NAMED DIRECTOR OF MARAD'S SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION

 WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Maritime Administrator Capt. Warren G. Leback today announced the appointment of Mayank "Nuns" Jain as director of the South Atlantic region of the Maritime Administration (MARAD).
 As South Atlantic region director, Jain will be responsible for promoting ports and intermodal development, port security and readiness in all U.S. East Coast ports and implementing MARAD's programs on the South Atlantic Coast. He will manage the operation, maintenance and repair of Ready Reserve Force vessels.
 Jain joined MARAD in 1989. During his tenure with the agency, he has served as supervisory marine surveyor, staff shipping representative, and most recently, as ship operations and maintenance officer.
 Prior to joining MARAD, Jain held numerous maritime industry positions including shipboard engineer, naval architect, port engineer, marine management consultant, cargo surveyor, hull and machinery surveyor and shipyard superintendent.
 Jain holds a B.S. degree from Marine Engineering College, Calcutta, India, a B.S.E. in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan and a chief engineers license from the United Kingdom.
 He, his wife, Nisha, and two sons, Suruj and Varun, live in Virginia Beach, Va.
 MARADS's South Atlantic region office is located at 7737 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk.
