MAXUS ANNOUNCES DISCOVERY ON WEST CAMERON 142, DELINEATION WELL ON HIGH ISLAND A-376

DALLAS, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxus Energy Corporation (NYSE: MXS) today announced that an exploratory well has been successfully completed on West Cameron 142, a lease held by Diamond Shamrock Offshore Partners (NYSE: DSP), Maxus' master limited partnership.
The No. 1 well logged approximately 68 net feet of natural gas pay from two zones between 9,550 feet and 10,030 feet. The No. 1 well was not tested, and the No. 2 well is currently drilling to delineate the reserves in the block. First production is expected in fourth quarter 1993. The gas from Block 142 will be flowed five miles south through facilities at West Cameron 178, which is also operated by DSP.
DSP holds 100 percent interest in West Cameron 142, which was acquired in April 1992 in the federal offshore lease sale.
Maxus also announced that DSP and its partners have successfully drilled a delineation well on High Island A-376.
DSP holds 29.92 percent interest in the block. The No. 6 well flowed at a rate of 5 million cubic feet of natural gas and 424 barrels of condensate per day from 20 feet of perforations between 11,690 and 11,710 feet with approximately 6,000 pounds per square inch of flowing tubing pressure. The well encountered 162 feet of net pay and confirmed the previously announced exploratory well. The operator, Anadarko Petroleum Corp., plans to install a new platform on the block to exploit this discovery. Production from the platform is expected to begin in December 1994.
Dallas-based Maxus Energy is a large independent oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in 13 countries, including the U.S. Maxus holds 87.1 percent and is the general partner of DSP.
