MAXUS ANNOUNCES DISCOVERY ON HIGH ISLAND A-376
DALLAS, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxus Energy Corporation (NYSE: MXS)

today announced that Diamond Shamrock Offshore Partners (DSP), Maxus' master limited partnership, and its partners have successfully drilled an exploratory well on High Island Block A-376. The block is located in the Gulf of Mexico about 150 miles offshore Texas.
The discovery well encountered 178 feet of net hydrocarbon pay at a measured depth from 10,761 feet to 11,295 feet. No flow tests were run and drilling has been suspended. The operator, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, currently plans to drill a delineation well in early 1993 and subsequently install a new platform on the block.
This discovery has tapped a new reservoir on High Island Block A-376 which is separate from the existing producing reservoirs that were discovered in 1979. DSP and its partners acquired High Island Block A- 376 in 1974 and installed a major oil and gas production platform in 1981. The 26 wells drilled from that platform have recovered 9.1 million barrels of oil and 55.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
DSP has 29.92 percent working interest. The other partners in the block include Anadarko, operator (33.8 percent); Elf Exploration, Inc. (15 percent); Samedan Oil Corporation (7.5 percent); New England Energy, Inc. (7.5 percent); and Columbia Gas Development Corporation (6.25 percent).
Dallas-based Maxus is a large independent oil and gas exploration and production company with activities in 14 different countries, including the U.S., Indonesia and Ecuador.
