MAXCOM - TASS AGREEMENT FOR GLOBAL MESSAGING AND NETWORK SERVICES

WALTHAM, Mass., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- MaxCom, a Delaware Corporation traded OTC, and TASS, the former Soviet Union News Agency (now known as ITAR-TASS), announced today that the two organizations have signed a Letter of Understanding to work together to provide communications networks and associated hardware/software products and services for the global market.
MaxCom, a leading value-added electronic mail and communications company serving multinational clients, will team with ITAR-TASS to provide electronic messaging products and services to, from, and within Russia and the Former Soviet Union. ITAR-TASS, the Russian News Agency, headquartered in Moscow, operates a world-wide communications network as well as extensive computer systems and informational databases. TASS will team with MaxCom to enhance the revenue generating opportunities from these capabilities.
Both parties agree that there is sufficient common interest to move beyond a Letter of Understanding and establish an operating entity together that will meet the following objectives: establish a combined domestic and international electronic mail network, offer database information services, provide computer programming services as well as other value added network services.
MaxCom's President, James Astle, explains: "Because the combination of ITAR-TASS and MaxCom will be able to provide both local electronic mail, to be sold in rubles and international traffic, to be sold in hard currencies, the new electronic mail service will be extremely competitive with existing domestic and international carriers. In addition, ITAR-TASS operates an extensive system of informational databases which will be offered to subscribers on a commercial basis."
MaxCom will contribute its COMET store/forward electronic mail software, marketing and sales expertise, desk-top software, billing and network management expertise, and interoperability with its other international partners in Europe.
ITAR-TASS will contribute computer hardware and local operational support, capacity on its communications channels and satellite circuits to cities world-wide, software and access to its databases of stories, pictures and historical archives.
First steps of the venture are underway, establishing a MaxCom-ITAR- TASS host in Moscow. This host will provide cost effective and integrated messaging services within Russia and the FSU and between Russia and the FSU and the rest of the world.
MaxCom develops and markets electronic mail systems including the Maxlink International Public Service for e-mail, telex, binary file transfer and facsimile applications, and the COMET family of Store and Forward software products for DEC platforms.
