 SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 8 /PRs?wire/ -- William L. Matthews, CPA, has been elected by the partners as managing partner-elect for Plante & Moran. His four-year term commences July 1, 1993. The announcement was made today by Edward M. Parks, managing partner for Plante & Moran.
 Based in the Southfield office, Matthews has been regional managing partner for the firm's Eastern Region since 1986, responsible for the firm's four offices in Southeast Michigan.
 Matthews joined Plante & Moran in 1961 as a proofreader while attending college, and since has held the positions of auditor, associate, audit partner, administrative partner and regional managing partner. He left the firm in 1965 to work as a controller for a client and returned to Plante & Moran a year and a half later. Throughout his career, Matthews has served as partner and business adviser to a number of the firm's closely held business clients.
 "We are fortunate to have someone as qualified as Bill elected to this position," Parks said. "As a client server, a team builder, an expert on the business aspects of the firm and an enhancer of our spirit, he will be a great leader for our firm. As with all our staff, Bill is particularly dedicated to enhancing our distinctive client services and closely held business and institutional clients."
 Parks has been Plante & Moran's managing partner since 1981, and will be completing his third and final term June 30, 1993. After June, Parks plans to expand his client service activities and has been asked to focus on the firm's long-range planning activities.
 Matthews attended Catholic Central High School in Detroit and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Detroit. He and his wife, Peggy, have four children and live in Livonia.
 His professional affiliates include: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and past chairman and member of the Board of Governors for The American Group of Certified Public Accountants.
