MATTEL PROMOTES KEVIN FARR, JOHN HANDY, AND SCOTT RAY TO VICE PRESIDENT POSTS

 LOS ANGELES, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Mattel Inc. has promoted Kevin Farr to vice president-taxes in the corporate finance department; John Handy to vice president-product design for its Preschool/Activity Toy lines; and Scott Ray to vice president-marketing, Asia/Pacific.
 A Mattel employee since 1991, Farr, 35, joined Mattel as director- domestic taxes and was promoted to senior director-taxes in 1992. Prior to that, he spent 11 years as a senior manager for Price Waterhouse.
 Farr earned a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1980 and a master of business administration degree in finance/marketing in 1986 from Northwestern University. He reports to Michael McCafferty, senior vice president and treasurer.
 Most recently senior director-product design, Handy first joined Mattel in 1983 as a designer and left the company in 1986 to work for Playmates Toys. He rejoined Mattel in 1987 as a senior project designer and has held numerous positions with the company over the last six years, including design project manager, senior manager-product design, and director-product design.
 An alumnus of Arizona State University, Handy, 34, earned a bachelor's degree in industrial design in 1983. He reports to Diana Troup, executive vice president-product design.
 Director-international marketing for Japan since 1990, Ray joined Mattel in 1984 as a sales forecasting system specialist. Subsequent positions include associate product manager in 1985, product manager in 1987 and senior product manager in 1989. Prior experience includes positions with Standard Oil of California and Ralph Chapek Inc.
 Ray, 35, received a bachelor's degree in business/economics and a master's degree in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1979 and 1981, respectively. He reports to Lindsey Williams, president-Mattel International.
