MASAZUMI SONE NAMED TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR AT UTA

 DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Masazumi Sone has been appointed to the newly created position of director - technology for United Technologies Automotive (UTA).
 Sone's appointment was announced today by Dr. Norman R. Bodine, president of UTA.
 In his new position, Sone will be responsible for coordinating technology programs for all of UTA's business units worldwide, and working with the United Technologies Research Center in identifying and assessing new technologies. Sone reports to Evelyn Simon, vice president, planning and general counsel.
 "Mr. Sone is highly regarded in the auto industry, and we are very pleased to have him in our organization," Bodine said. "Bringing Sone into this new position reflects the increased emphasis UTA is giving to research and technology development."
 Sone joins UTA after nearly 18 years with the Nissan Motor Company, where he most recently was director of research for Nissan Research & Development, Inc., based in Farmington Hills, Mich.
 While at Nissan, Sone established and directed Nissan's Cambridge Basic Research operation in Cambridge, Mass., focusing on fundamental studies in human behavior relevant to auto safety. He also had responsibility for strategic planning of R&D activities in North America, including the areas of intelligent vehicle highway systems, auto safety, electric vehicles and automotive electronics.
 Sone is author of more than 30 technical publications and has lectured at numerous universities and professional forums. He is a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and a number of professional engineering societies.
 Sone is a native of Japan and holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Hokkaido University. He is a doctoral candidate in international technology management at the University of Tokyo.
 UTA is a unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) based in Hartford, Conn., which provides a broad range of high-technology products and services to the aerospace, building systems and automotive industries.
