MARTIN MARIETTA WINS NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTER CONTRACT
BETHESDA, Md., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Martin Marietta Civil Space & Communications has been awarded a $2.4-million contract from Wheeling Jesuit College to perform systems engineering and integration and support services for the National Technology Transfer Center in Wheeling, W.Va.
At the direction of Congress, the National Technology Transfer Center was created by the college and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in April 1991. The center's principal mission is to assist all federal agencies in executing system-wide technology transfer to the private sector to enhance the United States' industrial competitiveness in the international market. The center gives American companies quick access to the federal research and development base and to the full range of technology transfer capabilities and services available in the United States.
The one-year contract includes options for four additional years. Martin Marietta will develop and implement a database of federal technology resources. Most of the work will be performed in West Virginia with support from the company's employees in Denver.
"New technologies and innovations are key to productivity advances and increased competitiveness," William F. Ballhaus, Jr., president of Civil Space & Communications, said. "A major portion of the research and development supported by the government is conducted in more than 700 federal laboratories. Industry must utilize this valuable resource."
