MARTIN MARIETTA SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH IUE, ASSUMES GE CONTRACT

WASHINGTON, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Union of Electronic Workers (IUE), AFL-CIO, reached agreement with Martin Marietta Corporation (NYSE: ML) in a successor contract to cover employees of the former General Electric Aerospace Division, which GE sold to Martin Marietta.
In the agreement between IUE and Martin Marietta signed June 21, the corporation agreed to "assume ... the terms and conditions" set forth in the 1991-94 National Agreement between General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) and the International Union of Electronic Workers including the 1991-94 wage agreement and pension and insurance agreement.
Martin Marietta purchased the GE Aerospace operations in late November 1992. The division was officially transferred on April 2. The agreement signed by the two parties will guarantee protections to approximately 4,000 IUE-represented employees. Martin Marietta also agreed to extend the contract provisions to other, former GE unions that are part of the Coordinated Bargaining Committee of GE unions.
The agreement provides that Martin Marietta will also assume the terms and conditions of any local supplemental memoranda of understanding which were in effect as of the official transfer date of April 2, 1993.
"Martin Marietta has promised to live up to the terms of a contract that IUE members had counted on," said IUE President Bill Bywater and IUE-GE Chairman Dewey Minton. "This agreement will preserve the 40 years of hard bargaining over wages and benefits negotiated with GE. Our locals will now be guaranteed protections for the life of their original agreement with General Electric, which expires June 26, 1994. With this agreement, our relationship with Martin Marietta is off on the right track."
This agreement will cover the following IUE locals:
 Local 103 -- Camden and Bridgeport, N.J.
 Local 106 -- Moorestown, N.J.
 Local 110 -- Camden, N.J.
 Local 248 -- Burlington, Vt.
 Local 254 -- Pittsfield, Mass.
 Local 301AE -- Schenectady, N.Y.
 Local 320 -- Syracuse, N.Y.
