MARTIN MARIETTA AWARDED FUNDING FOR ADVANCED NAVY ELECTRONICS
BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Martin Marietta Corporation (NYSE: ML) has received a $44.4 million contract from General Electric (NYSE: GE) to continue work as the dual manufacturing source of advanced electronic diagnostic equipment for the U.S. Navy.
Martin Marietta Technical Services, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the corporation, was selected by GE and the Navy in 1988 as second-source supplier of the Consolidated Automated Support System, or CASS. Technical Services manufactures CASS test equipment at a new, low-cost manufacturing facility in Americus, Ga.
Martin Marietta and GE both are producing CASS, a self-contained diagnostic unit designed to test a wide variety of existing and future electronic systems used by the Navy. CASS is designed to increase Navy repair capabilities, decrease spare parts and training requirements, and reduce the physical space currently necessary for electronic testing. The Navy has indicated plans to buy more than 775 test sets. Martin Marietta began CASS deliveries this year and has shipped its first four units to the Navy.
