MARTIN MARIETTA ACQUIRES TWO QUARRIES IN IOWA
BETHESDA, Md., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In its fifth aggregates

industry acquisition in 12 months, Martin Marietta Corp. (NYSE: ML) has purchased the assets of Midwest Limestone Co. in Iowa for an undisclosed price.
The transaction includes a large crushed stone operation at Gilmore City, which supplies markets in parts of Iowa and Minnesota with construction aggregates as well as chemical-grade limestone used in agriculture and animal feed supplements, and a quarry and a sand and gravel operation near Humboldt.
The plants will be managed and operated by Martin Marietta Aggregates, third largest producer of crushed stone for the U.S. construction industry. Martin Marietta, which has added more than 8 million tons of production capacity through acquisitions in Iowa, Virginia and Georgia over the past year, said the purchases are part of its expressed strategy to expand its materials and other non- defense businesses.
