MARTEK'S OILS DEBUT IN TERM FORMULA IN PHILIPPINES/ARABIA.
"Better formula is good business," said Henry Linsert, Jr., Martek's chairman and CEO. "Parents around the world have voted with their wallets to buy the best nutrition for their children. I believe that these two new product introductions will be the first of many to reach the marketplace this year."
Martek's nutritional oils containing docosahexaenoic acid ("DHA") and arachidonic acid ("ARA") oils are vegetable oils containing two essential long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids which are fundamental building blocks of the brain and the retina. DHA and ARA are naturally delivered to babies through breast milk. The British Nutrition Foundation and the Joint Expert Committee on Human Nutrition of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) have recommended that DHA and ARA be included in all infant formulas.
Martek Biosciences Corporation develops, manufactures and sells products from microalgae. The company's products include: (1) specialty, nutritional oils for infant formula, nutritional supplements and food ingredients that may play a beneficial role in promoting mental and cardiovascular health, and in the development of the eyes and central nervous system in newborns; (2) high value reagents and technologies to visualize molecular interactions for drug discovery and development and; (3) new, powerful fluorescent markers for diagnostics, rapid miniaturized screening, and gene and protein detection.
