MARRIOTT OPENS FIRST STRATFORD COURT RETIREMENT COMMUNITY
PALM HARBOR, Fla., March 10 /PRNewswire -- Marriott Senior Living Services today opened Stratford Court of Palm Harbor, an independent full-service retirement community that will be a prototype for Stratford Court communities nationwide. The community opened with over 40 percent of its units already reserved.
Located on a 20-acre site at the northwest corner of Tampa Road and McMullen-Booth Road, Stratford Court provides a full range of residential services and levels of care. The community includes 219 one- and two-bedroom and studio independent living apartments, 40 assisted living and personal care apartments, and a 60-bed nursing center offering intermediate and skilled nursing care.
"Stratford Court is specifically designed to help older Americans remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. At the same time, it provides all the health care and services seniors need as they age," said Richard E. Marriott, vice chairman of Marriott Corporation. "Palm Harbor is the first of many Stratford Court communities that Marriott will develop in an effort to address the growing demand for specialized senior housing."
Monthly fees, ranging from $950-$2,325, include daily meals, weekly housekeeping and linen services, social and recreational activities, local transportation, and 24-hour security and emergency call systems. Amenities include a wellness center, library, a bank, a fitness center, activity rooms, country store and gift shop, beauty and barber shop, coffee shop and a full-service dining room. There are no endowment nor entry fees required.
Seniors are encouraged to move into Stratford Court while they are still healthy and active and can enjoy the hotel-type amenities offered by the community. As their needs change, residents can receive necessary services and care while staying in their own apartments. Residents requiring a greater level of care are able to move into the assisted living or nursing sections of the community as appropriate.
"Stratford Court is the result of many years of research into the changing needs and lifestyles of older Americans. Marriott has coupled this research with over 60 years of hospitality experience to create a truly unique retirement living concept," said Dr. Ted Nickell, general manager of Stratford Court of Palm Harbor. "In the past, senior housing has been developed from a real estate or medical point of view. At Marriott, we approach the business from the hospitality angle, giving seniors not only a beautiful new home with the care they need, but the services and amenities they want and deserve."
Marriott Senior Living Services, a division of Marriott Corporation (NYSE: MHS), currently operates 14 retirement communities throughout the United States. The company has a second Stratford Court under construction in Boca Raton, Fla., and more than a dozen other sites in various stages of development. The introduction of Stratford Court follows Marriott's highly successful introduction of its Brighton Gardens prototype assisted living community. The company has opened four Brighton Gardens and has several more under development.
Based in Washington, Marriott Corporation is a diversified lodging and contract services company. Sales for 1991 exceeded $8 billion.
