 MARRIOTT CORPORATION IMPLEMENTS 'MARRIOTT CARES'
 HURRICANE ANDREW RELIEF EFFORT
MIAMI, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Marriott Corporation (NYSE: MHS), one of the largest employers in South Florida, with the leadership of its Marriott Southeast Florida Business Council, has launched a nationwide relief effort "Marriott Cares" to aid the thousands of Marriott associates and extended business families as well as members of the local community who have been affected by the wrath of Hurricane Andrew in Broward and Dade counties.
Employing approximately 3,000 associates and providing nearly $64 million in wages and benefits per year in the two counties, Marriott Corporation and the Southeast Florida Business Council have banded together to not only meet the basic needs of their associates and their families, but to extend support to the relief efforts of the American Red Cross while continuing to provide client and guest services throughout the Marriott business community.
National efforts of the company's strong response team include:
-- Delivering and continuing to supply more than 10,000 cases of food, 75,000 pounds of ice and 30,000 bottles of water during the hurricane watch in the 24 hours before the storm.
-- Establishing a distribution system to deliver goods to more than 3,000 associates and their families at 17 facilities hit hardest by the storm.
-- Arranging for management volunteers from throughout Florida to arrive and assist with distribution and clean up efforts.
-- Supplying a number of local hospitals with ice, water and food shipments.
-- Establishing a monetary fund and providing assistance and shelter to those associates hardest hit by the storm, as well as time off to attend to critical personal needs.
"With truck loads of Marriott supplies pouring in from all over the country, this national relief effort is doing more than easing the emotional and physical hardships of our associates, it is fostering high morale in our corporation so we may continue our quality service and personal touch which Marriott is known for," said Rick Hancock, chairman of the Marriott Southeast Florida Business Council. "This effort shows to our associates Marriott does care and we will continue this joint effort until all of our family's needs have been met."
