MARRIOTT ADDS TWO HOTELS IN PAKISTAN
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Marriott Corporation (NYSE: MHS) has entered into a franchise agreement with Hashwani Hotels, Ltd., in Pakistan that will result in two upscale, full service hotels in Islamabad and Karachi being added to the Marriott lodging system, effective Oct. 1, 1992.
"We are very pleased to welcome Pakistan and the Islamabad Marriott and the Karachi Marriott to our growing network of upscale international properties," said Ed Fuller, senior vice president and managing director for Marriott Lodging International.
"International investment in Pakistan has increased considerably in recent years, and we are confident that Pakistan has tremendous potential for growth. We are delighted that the Marriott name has been added to the tourism and business infrastructure of Pakistan."
In Islamabad, capital city of Pakistan, the refurbished 290-room Islamabad Marriott is located on Aga Khan Road, approximately two blocks from the President's Palace and the Legislative Assembly building.
The hotel offers a two-level executive floor and lounge, business center, a selection of restaurants, 24-hour room service, outdoor swimming pool and fitness center and retail shops. Its 9,325 square feet of meeting space is comprised of a 5,900 square-foot ballroom and three additional meeting rooms totaling 3,425 square feet.
The 219-room Karachi Marriott is located on Abdullah Harron Road in the central part of the city, approximately 25 minutes by car from the Karachi International Airport.
Among its services and amenities are a selection of three restaurants, a two-level executive floor and lounge, business center, swimming pool, fitness center, tennis and squash facilities, retail shops, on-site bakery and 24-hour room service.
Its 15,900 square feet of meeting space is divisible into seven meeting rooms, including a 5,400 square-foot ballroom.
The Karachi Marriott was opened in 1981 and is currently undergoing a substantial refurbishment program which is scheduled for completion by March 31, 1993.
With the addition of the Islamabad and Karachi Marriott hotels, Marriott's lodging portfolio outside the United States totals 41 properties spanning 20 countries.
Since the beginning of the year, Marriott has added 17 hotels to its international lodging system, virtually doubling its global presence. Future plans call for the opening of the 290-room Bristol Marriott in the United Kingdom in October 1992; and for ground breaking to take place on a 400-room deluxe hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, in late 1992. In 1993, a 260-room full-service deluxe hotel will open in Leeds, England; and a 235-room deluxe hotel will open in Dubai City, United Arab Emirates. In addition, construction will begin on a 333-room full-service hotel in Paris in early 1993. Other developments are expected to be announced shortly.
