MARQUETTE BANCSHARES TO ACQUIRE FIRST BANK COON RAPIDS

MINNEAPOLIS, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Marquette Bancshares, Inc. (MBI), based in Minneapolis, and First Bank Coon Rapids, in Coon Rapids, Minn., have entered into an agreement whereby MBI would acquire First Bank Coon Rapids, officials of both organizations announced today. First Bank Coon Rapids is not part of First Bank System.
This transaction, subject to approval by federal and state bank regulatory authorities, is expected to close sometime this summer. First Bank Coon Rapids has $71 million in total assets and $62 million into total deposits. The bank was chartered in 1960 as First State Bank of Coon Rapids.
MBI is owned by Carl Pohlad and his family and oversees the operations of 12 independent Marquette Banks with 23 offices in Minnesota and combined total assets of nearly $1 billion. The Pohlads, who also own 20 additional banks in nine other states with additional combined total assets of $2 billion, also own the Minnesota Twin baseball club. Their ownership of community banks has been expanding for several year. MBI is also awaiting approval of an application to open a new bank, Marquette Capital Bank, in downtown Minneapolis that will focus on business and private banking.
"We are excited about expanding into the growing Coon Rapids area," said Carl Pohlad. "We have a proven, solid reputation in the quality of service we provide to our customers and we look forward to having the people of this area get to know us. The affiliation with our banking organization will add new opportunities to the long history of banking services provided by First Bank Coon Rapids."
It is anticipated that the bank's name will be changed to Marquette Bank Coon Rapids after the sale is completed. However, there are no plans to change from a state-chartered, locally managed bank, Pohlad said.
