NEW YORK, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, syndication's top two dynamos, have been renewed through the 1994-1995 and 1995-1996 broadcast seasons. Wheel of Fortune is coming off of its highest May Sweeps rating in four years and once again, Jeopardy! is up year-to-year in ratings and every demographic. Both shows are produced by Merv Griffin Enterprises. The announcement was made today by Roger King, chairman of the board, King World Productions, Inc. (NYSE: KWP).
In making the announcement, King stated, "The response to these renewals has been incredible! Wheel and Jeopardy! are clearly the hottest programs on television and these long-term renewals are evidence of that. By continuously blowing the competition away, and by demonstrating consistent ratings increases, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! ensure that the stations that carry them are number one in their respective markets. I am thrilled to announce these renewals and predict that Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! will be syndication's two dominant shows throughout the year 2000 and beyond."
Stations that have renewed Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! include such prestigious broadcasters as ABC owned-and-operated stations WABC- TV, New York; KABC-TV, Los Angeles; WLS-TV, Chicago; WPIV-TV, Philadelphia; KGO-TV, San Francisco; and KFSW-TV in Fresno. Other stations renewed include, WHDH-TV, Boston; KOMO-TV, Seattle; WFTV-TV, Orlando, and WKYT-TV, Lexington. Additional renewals will be announced shortly.
Terry Crofoot, president and general manager of KABC-TV in Los Angeles, said, "By renewing Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! I am guaranteeing that KABC-TV will be the number one station in Los Angeles for years to come. These two shows are an integral part of my schedule and I know that Merv Griffin and King World will continue to produce and market as fine a pair of shows as I have ever put on my station."
King World is the leading worldwide distributor of first run programming, including "Wheel of Fortune," "Jeopardy!," and "The Oprah Winfrey Show," the three highest rated strips in syndication, and "Inside Edition," a first-run syndicated newsmagazine series produced by the company.
