MARKHAM.
Alvin R. "Al" Markham ELGIN - Alvin R. "Al" Markham, 79, passed away Tuesday evening, July 3, 2018, at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was born Sept. 16, 1938 in Dundee the son of Russell and Violet (Aurand) Markham. Al married Barbara A. Gurke on Feb. 27, 1960, at St. John United Church of Christ in Harmony. Mr. Markham was a longtime garbage man for several disposal companies and retired after many years with BFI. He enjoyed Stock car racing with his boys and grandsons at the Sycamore Speedway. He was known as the "eggman" to many customers and friends, and especially liked loud fireworks and bowling. He is survived by his four children, Darwin (Earlita), Beth Cobb, Ralph (Renee), and Roger (Samantha); 8 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Yvonne Mainard, Thelma Loveless, Sandra (Chuck) Adams, and Linda Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara on Feb. 6, 2016; and siblings, Marjorie Hodges, Marion Scarborough, Wesley Markham, Mary Scronce, Virginia Jones, and infant brothers, Russell and Leonard Markham. Funeral Services will be held at 11am Monday, July 9 at St. John United Church of Christ, 11821 E. Grant Hwy., Harmony with burial following in the Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 6pm Sunday, July 8 at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and continues Monday at the church prior to services from 10 to 11.
