MARK GOMPERTZ NAMED VICE PRESIDENT AND PUBLISHER OF SIMON & SCHUSTER TRADE PAPERBACKS

 NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Gompertz has been named vice president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Trade paperbacks, the Fireside and Touchstone imprints. The appointment was announced today by Carolyn K. Reidy, president and publishes of the Simon & Schuster Trade Division of Paramount Publishing.
 Mr. Gompertz will move to Paramount Publishing on May 24, from Avon Books, where, for the last four years, he has held primary responsibility for trade paperback program he helped to originate. Mr. Gompertz' career in publishing began in 1976 with The Overlook Press, where he held a series of increasingly responsible management and editorial positions over a ten year span. He left Overlook in 1986 to join Crown Publishing as senior editor, and moved to Avon Books in 1989 as associate publisher, being promoted to publisher in January 1992.
 Mr. Gompertz, 38, holds a 1976 bachelor of science degree summa cum laude from Boston University. He lives in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. with his wife Daniele and their two sons.
