MARK G. ESSIG NAMED VICE PRESIDENT, SALES AND MARKETING, FOR ARMCO STEEL COMPANY

 MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark G. Essig, 35, was named vice president, sales and marketing, for Armco Steel Company (ASC). He succeeds Alan J. Host, who has elected retirement.
 Essig joined ASC in August of 1992 as vice president, employee relations and assistant to the president. Prior to ASC, Essig was vice president and chief financial officer for Washington Steel Corporation, Washington, Pa., where he also had held the post of vice president, finance and administration. Before joining Washington Steel Corporation, he operated a consulting firm which specialized in corporate turnarounds for manufacturing companies. Essig also held posts in finance, labor relations and plant management with Borg-Warner Corporation.
 In his new position, Essig will direct all commercial activities for ASC, including sales, marketing, customer service, product application technology and product processing.
 Headquartered in Middletown, Ohio, Armco Steel Company is a 50/50 joint venture between Armco, Inc., Parsippany, N.J. (NYSE: AS) and Kawasaki Steel Corporation, Tokyo. The company produces flat-rolled carbon steel for automotive, appliance, construction, manufacturing and distribution markets. The company has annual sales of approximately $1.5 billion and employs about 6,800 men and women.
