 MARITRANS ANNOUNCES MAJOR BUSINESS RESTRUCTURING; NEW INDEPENDENT
 BUSINESS UNITS POSITIONED FOR RAPID CUSTOMER RESPONSE
 PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Maritrans Operating Partners L.P., the nation's largest independent marine petroleum transporter in the coastal trade, announced today it has restructured into four distinct business units effective Jan. 20, 1992.
 In announcing the restructuring, Stephen A. Van Dyck, Maritrans chairman of the board and chief executive officer, commented, "The real change is that we have decentralized our operations and simplified our shoreside support structure. Each business unit will be able to make independent decisions to serve more effectively the needs of our customers in each of our unique markets."
 Royal D. Joslin has been named president of the Maritrans Eastern Division, which serves the company's Atlantic coastwise and lightering markets and is headquartered at the company's Philadelphia fleet center on the Schuylkill River. Joslin joined the firm in 1979 and has most recently served as senior vice president, operations.
 Charles R. Ward, named president of the Maritrans Inland Division, operates Maritrans' smaller-vessel fleet in the Philadelphia and Chesapeake markets. Before the reorganization, Ward served as manager of the company's central traffic function. He joined the firm in 1978. Inland Division shoreside operations are located in space occupied and leased from Tank Cleaning Inc., a Maritrans subsidiary.
 The Maritrans Gulf Division takes on a full sales capability in its Tampa, Fla., office. Vice President David C. Buchanan, who has served with the company since 1952, will continue as head of the southern fleet, which services Maritrans customers in the Gulf of Mexico.
 Edward J. Flood continues as president of Tank Cleaning Inc., a full-service petroleum product terminal able to receive, store and subsequently redistribute product by pipeline, marine vessel and truck. The facility is located in Philadelphia on the Schuylkill River.
 Maritrans Partners L.P. (NYSE: TUG) is a master limited partnership formed in 1987 to purchase and operate, through Maritrans Operating Partners L.P., a fleet of tugboats and oceangoing tank barges along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. Maritrans is the largest independent U.S. flag marine transporter of petroleum products in the coastal trade. The Maritrans Partners L.P. limited partnership units are listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "TUG."
