MARIO BROS. PRODUCTS TO BE DEVELOPED BY SOFTWARE TOOLWORKS
 Character Licensing Agreement Announced
NOVATO, Calif., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Software Toolworks (NASDAQ: TWRX) announced it has begun developing software for the personal computer market using the famous Mario Bros., according to the terms of a worldwide (except Japan) character licensing agreement announced today between The Software Toolworks and Nintendo of America Inc. This is one of the few times Nintendo has agreed to let a third party developer create products using the Mario Bros., the company's most well known characters.
The licensing agreement covers development of "edutainment" software for personal computers as well as for use with the Nintendo Entertainment System(R) and Super Nintendo Entertainment System(R). Edutainment software is a rapidly growing category featuring products that educate in an entertaining format.
The Software Toolworks also announced its first product using the Mario Bros. characters. Titled "Mario Is Missing," the theme centers on one brother, Luigi, who embarks on a danger-filled search to find his missing brother Mario. The software will be available initially for IBM and compatible personal computers in the fall of 1992. Products will offer high resolution graphics, state-of-the-art audio capabilities, and will utilize Software Toolworks' in-house expertise and proprietary technology. The price has not been established.
"We are pleased that Nintendo and Software Toolworks will be expanding an already close and successful relationship," said Bob Lloyd, president of The Software Toolworks. "We expect to offer personal computer users their initial opportunities to experience the Mario Bros. firsthand."
Product development plans include delivery of disk-based and cartridge products in the short term, and, in the longer term, CD-ROM products for expanded learning and enjoyment.
The Software Toolworks Inc. publishes and distributes entertainment and personal productivity computer software, and CD-ROM reference products for the PC, Macintosh(R), Amiga(R), and Game Boy(TM), plus Ninte ?Entertainment Systems and Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems markets.
