MARINERS AND KING COUNTY ANNOUNCE NEW SPONSOR FOR KINGDOME SIGN

SEATTLE, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seattle Mariners and King County announced a long-term partnership today with McDonald's of Western Washington for sponsorship of the Kingdome sign currently held by the Philip Morris Co., according to McDonald's. McDonalds' scoreboard sign will replace Philip Morris Jan. 1, 1994.
"We are proud to announce this new partnership with McDonald's and feel confident that they will be a valuable addition to the Kingdome," said Tim Hill, King County Executive.
Seattle Mariners President Chuck Armstrong; Hill; and Tom Crockett of McDonald's signed a four-year agreement today at the Mariners Clubhouse. The agreement gives McDonald's advertising rights to the sponsor sign above left field.
"We're excited about all the opportunities that will be created for the Mariners by taking the field with McDonald's," said Armstrong. "This is just the beginning of a great home stand."
According to Armstrong, selecting a new sponsor for the Kingdome was an important decision for the new ball club. They wanted a sponsor that had strong ties to the community; one that would enhance the family values of going to the ballpark to watch Mariner baseball. McDonald's, an all-American family restaurant, was an obvious choice.
"When we heard this opportunity was available we saw it as a natural extension for us in Western Washington. Mariners fans are also McDonald's fans and this partnership can only add to an already positive relationship," said Crockett. "We want this partnership to be more than just a sign. We look forward to working with the Mariners on other projects as well."
McDonald's is the nation's largest quick-service restaurant with more than 9,000 restaurants in the United States, 166 of those in Washington state. About 75 percent of McDonald's restaurant businesses are locally owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs.
