MARIA JOHNSON BECOMES FANNIE MAE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DIVERSITY
WASHINGTON, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) (NYSE: FNM) today announced that Maria Johnson has been elected to the newly created position of vice president for diversity. The action was taken at the company's regularly scheduled board meeting here.
Johnson, who will report directly to Lawrence M. Small, Fannie Mae president and chief operating officer, will be responsible for developing and implementing efforts to promote diversity in the work place and enhance career development. She also will serve as the company's Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Officer. Additionally, Johnson will be responsible for an initiative to increase Fannie Mae's business relationships with women-and minority-owned businesses.

Most recently, she served as chief administrative judge for the District of Columbia's Office of Employee Appeals Temporary Appeals Panel, an agency formed to hear employees' appeals resulting from Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly's downsizing of city government. Johnson is a graduate of Howard University and Georgetown University Law School.
Fannie Mae, the USA's Housing Partner, is a congressionally chartered, shareholder-owned company and the nation's largest investor in home mortgages.
