MARGOLIS RESIGNS AS CHEROKEE CEO

SUNLAND, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Margolis today resigned as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cherokee Inc. (NASDAQ: CHKEQ) to pursue other entrepreneurial interests. He will remain as a consultant to the board of the leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of casual apparel and footwear.
"I felt an obligation, after 13 exciting years at Cherokee, to stay on through completion of our successful financial restructuring, which was accomplished last May," Margolis said. "However, now that the company is on a firmer financial footing and has reported a profitable first quarter, I feel the time is appropriate for me to step aside so that the new management team can focus on maximizing the potential of Cherokee's brand name and other strengths in today's marketplace."
Cherokee's Board of Directors emphasized that no further management changes are contemplated. Each of the major divisions will continue to be headed by experienced and talented executives: Joe Elles, who continues as President of the Apparel Division, recently joined Cherokee after serving as Vice President and General Merchandising Manager of Lee Apparel Company; Barry Lublin continues as the Chief Operating Officer of that division; Michael Seyhun is President of the Shoe Division; Corky Newman is President of the Licensing Division; and Thomas Melucci is President of Priority Finishing. Rounding out the management team are Cary Cooper, the Chief Financial Officer, and Jay Kester, President of Worldwide Marketing for Cherokee Inc.
Margolis said, "At this point, after 25 years in the apparel industry, now that Cherokee's repositioning is well underway, I would like to take some time off to be with my family and then pursue other entrepreneurial opportunities which may arise in our industry."
Bryan Marsal, a veteran operational manager, has been engaged to assist the Cherokee Board for an interim period until a permanent Chief Executive Officer has been identified.
