MARATHON WELL TESTS 4,000 BOPD IN INDONESIA'S KAKAP BLOCK
HOUSTON, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Marathon Oil Company announced today that the first delineation well to its recent KRA discovery in the Natuna Sea offshore Indonesia tested at a combined rate of 4,000 barrels per day of 45 degree API gravity oil.
Two drill stem tests were conducted in Tertiary sands ranging in depths from 5,312 to 5,436 feet and from 7,105 to 7,243 feet. The well produced at a flowing tubing pressure of 300 psi with choke sizes ranging up to one inch.
The KRA-2X well is located within the 496,470-acre Kakap Block about 2.6 miles southeast of Marathon's KRA-1X discovery well which tested at a rate of 6,200 barrels of oil per day last October. The KRA feature is about 12 miles southeast of the Kakap production facilities which produce approximately 24,000 barrels of oil per day from the KH and KF Fields.
The well has been temporarily suspended, and the rig has been moved to the KRA-3X delineation well location approximately 1-1/2 miles southeast of the discovery well.
A wholly owned Marathon Oil Company subsidiary, Marathon Petroleum Indonesia, Ltd., is the operator of the block and holds a 37.5 percent working interest. Other participants include: Pertamina, with a 10.0 percent interest; Oryx U.K. (Kakap) Ltd. and Oryx Canada (Kakap) Ltd., with a combined 18.75 percent; Lasmo Kakap Ltd. and Hudbay Oil (Kakap) Ltd., with a combined interest of 18.75 percent; and Phillips Petroleum Production Indonesia, with a 15.0 percent interest.
