MANUGISTICS REPORTS PRELIMINARY FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THIRD QUARTER FISCAL 1994

ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: MANU) today announced preliminary consolidated financial results for its third quarter, ended Nov. 30, 1993. Subject to normal quarter ending adjustments, revenues increased by more than 50 percent to approximately $9,200,000 from $5,912,000 in the same period of the previous year. Net income for the quarter will be approximately $525,000 or approximately 5 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $660,000 or 9 cents per share in the same quarter of last year.
For the first nine months of the fiscal year, ended Nov. 30, 1993, revenues increased more than 45 percent to approximately $27,500,000 from $18,743,000 in the same period of the previous year. For this nine month period, the company expects earnings per share to be in the range of 19 cents to 20 cents compared to a net loss of $1,206,000 or 16 cents per share in the comparable period of the previous fiscal year. These results are not final and are subject to change. Final results for the third quarter will be announced in mid-January of 1994.
"The company's core business, represented by the Manugistics software products and services for supply chain management, has met or exceeded our expectations for growth in revenues, expansion of the installed base of customers, and qualification of future prospects," said William M. Gibson, president and CEO. "These achievements position us for continuing success as the dominant supplier of supply chain management solutions, both domestically and internationally."
"Although our core business grew even faster than the 50 percent growth in overall corporate revenue for the quarter, total corporate revenue for the third quarter was less than expected because revenues from the personal systems portion of our business were approximately $1,100,000 less than expected," said William J. Kaluza, CFO and senior vice president, Operations. "The shortfall in revenue generated by these product lines is due primarily to clients and prospects deciding not to purchase current DOS versions of the STATGRAPHICS(R) and APL PLUS(R) products in anticipation of the Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) versions of these products that are scheduled for release in early 1994."
