MANUFACTURER ANNOUNCES RECALL OF TWO BRANDS OF GUACAMOLE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- A Southern California producer of food products has announced the recall of two brands of fresh guacamole sold in supermarkets in the Southland.
El Burrito Mexican Food Products Inc. says that some containers of its guacamole have been found to contain the bacteria listeria which can cause the disease listeriosis among certain susceptible people such as pregnant women, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.
The affected guacamole was sold in 11-ounce containers under the name El Burrito Chili Guacamole and in 10-ounce containers under the name Las Lomas Guacamole. Both are sold in supermarket refrigerated cases. Only containers with the words "Sell by 11-22-93" are included in the recall.
Consumers who have any of these products at home can return them to the market where they were purchased for a full refund. The company reports that it has received no reports of illness and that the recall is a precautionary measure.
