MANNINGTON EXCEEDS CORPORATE GIVING GOAL DESPITE RECESSION
SALEM, N.J., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, Mannington Resilient Floors exceeded its United Way campaign goal, despite a sluggish economy and a downturn in manufacturing.
Tom McAndrews, president of Mannington Resilient Floors, said the company exceeded its goal by 24 percent, with the average employee contributing $85, for a total company-wide contribution of $59,000.
"The United Way increase is so significant for us, because despite the problems occurring in our own industry, and an overall decline in corporate giving nationwide, we've still been able to make a significant contribution," McAndrews said.
"It was very touching to learn that one of our hourly workers even cut back on his Thanksgiving dinner so he could give more to the United Way."
McAndrews also said that the contribution rate of plant employees, which traditionally has the least participation, this year exceeded its goal by the highest percentage ever.
He pointed to this change in giving patterns as a direct response to the company's internal momentum, which since the introduction of its flagship product, Mannington Gold, has thrived. McAndrews said he believes this is due to employee pride in the products they produce and employee confidence in the company as a whole.
"We've been very fortunate to have assembled some of the best people in the business right here in Salem," he said. "I'd like to think that the increase in donations for the past two years reflects the fact that employees are feeling very positive and want to share their own good fortune with others."
Mannington is one of the largest flooring manufacturers in the country with 2,500 employees in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1915, its mission is to provide innovative flooring products and services, designed to meet the ever-changing needs of today's consumers. The company is the only flooring company in North America to manufacture resilient, wood, carpet and ceramic tile floors.
