MAN OF THE PEOPLE: Gilbert The Gull.

GOT pulled by a big bird in Torquay. Gilbert The Gull - the football club's mascot - got into a bit of a flap with me after I'd sounded off about the menace of seagulls in the English Riviera town.

But I won't be gagged because with him leading the way at the Plainmoor ground the rest of his feathered friends ruled the roost.

Honest to God, it was like a scene from a Hitchcock movie.

The action in the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest was great, but I've never seen players having to waltz around opposition defenders AND seagulls!

The sight that will always live with me was Gulls' keeper Andy Marriott guarding his posts with a massive seagull, thankfully not Gilbert, perched on the crossbar.

Thank goodness when the ball came near it flew off in fright ...only leaving its mark on the netting and not Andy.
