MAN JAILED FOR PEOPLE SMUGGLING.

A MAN was jailed for two years after being found guilty of people smuggling.

Latvian Maksim Tjurins, 41, was part of an India-based organised crime network that specialised in transporting asylum seekers to the UK using forged documents.

He appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on December 16 to face two allegations of helping smuggle Iranian immigrants into the UK.

The court heard on May 20 2011 Tjurins supplied fake documents to a man travelling on a flight with him from France to Liverpool.

During the course of the flight Tjurins took the documents back from the man who then claimed asylum at passport control.

Nine days earlier the same had happened with a different man travelling from Mumbai, India, to London Heathrow.
