MAN IN COURT OVER MARIE MURDER; Ex-partner charged.
A MAN accused of killing his ex-girlfriend has appeared in court for the first time.
Andrew Lindo, 28, of Holmfirth, was charged with murdering Miss Marie Stewart.
The musician and theatre school teacher spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth at Huddersfield Magistrates'' Court yesterday morning.
Lindo, who wore a dark top, glasses and light stubble, appeared calm as he was brought in to a packed Court 1 at 10.50am.
He was charged with murdering Miss Stewart, 30, at his home on Perseverance Place at some point between December 17, 2010, and this Monday.
Lindo, who was represented by Howard Byrne, was not asked to enter a plea to the charge.
Prosecutor Carol Lawford asked the magistrates to send the case to a higher court.
Chairman of the bench Brian Castle agreed, ordering Lindo to appear at Bradford Crown Court at 10am today. There was no reaction from the victim's relatives in the public gallery as Lindo was remanded in custody.
The body of Miss Stewart, who worked as a learning support worker at Holmfirth High School, was discovered in a garage at Perseverance Place on Sunday. She had moved into the house with Lindo about a year ago.
When police made the arrest of Lindo, they also arrested his new girlfriend.
She is Miss Angela Rylance, 29, of Barnsley, who had been staying at the house in Holmfirth.
She was released without charge after being questioned by West Yorkshire Police.
