MALLS AND THE SALVATION ARMY 'SINGING UP A STORM' FOR HURRICANE RELIEF
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 60 malls across the nation will sponsor a Karaoke fundraiser for Hurricane Andrew relief this weekend. DeBartolo Corporation along with RAC Entertainment will donate all proceeds to the Salvation Army's Hurricane recovery and rebuilding efforts throughout South Florida.
During Oct. 16-18, mall shoppers will sing "Karaoke style" for a $5 fee, $10 for a souvenir T-shirt, and help those devastated by the disaster. Nearly 1,000 hours of singing, recording and fun are expected to raise over $100,000 to go directly to post Hurricane programs.
"We are extremely grateful to the DeBartolo Corporation and its network of malls," said Colonel Leon Ferraez, director of the national communications department of the Salvation Army. "This is a prime example of how corporations across the country have pitched in to help the victims of the devastation."
Since the Hurricane struck in August, the Salvation Army has served over 167,000 meals, 588,000 sandwiches and nearly 2 million cold drinks. "The need for rebuilding and revitalizing each community in the Hurricane's path is immense. We've been helping victims since the disaster struck and we will be on the scene as long as necessary," said Ferraez.
