MALIBU COMICS TO DEBUT 'THE MIGHTY MAGNOR,' NEW BY MAD MAGAZINE ARTIST SERGIO ARAGONES, IN APRIL ON QVC NETWORK

LOS ANGELES, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Malibu Comics, the rapidly growing comic book publisher known for its highly ambitious and creative publications, has announced a mid-April release for the premiere edition of its much-anticipated new series, "The Mighty Magnor," illustrated and co-authored by internationally renowned Spanish artist, Sergio Aragones, perhaps best known for his longstanding contributions to Mad magazine. The announcement was made today by Scott Rosenberg, president of Malibu Comics, which recently secured the exclusive comic book rights to "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
Co-authored by Mark Evanier, a contributing writer to such television programs as "Garfield" and "Bob," and edited by Malibu Comics' Chris Ulm, "The Might Magnor" is already drawing widespread attention not only by virtue of its creators, but because of the debut issue's special pop-up cover, the first such cover in the annals of the comic book industry.
In addition, "The Mighty Magnor" will be further distinguished by being the first comic book ever to debut on television's QVC network. With Aragones appearing on the network to personally introduce the comic book to viewers, the new series will be offered to specialty outlets and individuals enthusiasts on Wednesday, April 7, from 4-6 p.m., Eastern Time.
With advance interest in "The Mighty Magnor" especially high at the retail and consumer level on the eve of its distribution to comic book outlets, specialty stores, newsstands and individual subscribers nationwide, Malibu Comics additionally is exploring the eventual creation of Spanish-language versions of the new comic book, since Aragones enjoys a huge following within the Hispanic community.
Marking a unique combination of irreverence and super-hero adventure, and boasting Aragones' familiar blend of dazzling visuals, bizarre characterizations and absurd humor, "The Mighty Magnor" revolves around a robot scout sent from another planet to invade Earth. When the scout, Magnor, crash-lands, goes berserk and ultimately comes across two would-be cartoonists who decide to use him as the model for their new super-hero line, the alien becomes convinced that he is indeed a real super-hero and the stage is set for a comedic send-up of the genre the likes of which comic book readers have never seen before.
Born in Spain in 1937, Aragones became a professional cartoonist while growing up in Mexico. Moving to New York later on, he attained industry celebrity status after joining the staff of Mad magazine, where he remains a contributing illustrator and writer to this day. Aragones first ventured into the comic book arena in 1967 and soon after created the hugely successful and still published "Groo" series with Evanier. Aragones' recent comic book works have included "Buzz & Bell" and "Smokehouse Five," both of which are published and widely read virtually throughout the world.
A division of the multimedia Malibu Comics Entertainment, which also creates and develops video games, Malibu Comics publishes comic books spanning such stylistic realms as super-heroes, humor, film and television adaptations, science fiction, horror and action/adventure.
