MALIBU COMICS ANNOUNCES SEPT. 15 RELEASE DATE
FOR 'READ MY LIPS! THE UNOFFICIAL CARTOON BIOGRAPHY OF GEORGE BUSH'
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sept. 15, the presidential elections will receive a welcome dose of comic relief with the national release of "Read My Lips! The Unofficial Cartoon Biography of George Bush," a factually based but humorously oriented look at the president's life being published by Malibu Comics, responsible for the current and previous best-selling comic books in the country. The announcement was made today by Scott Rosenberg, president of Malibu Comics, a division of Malibu Comics Entertainment Inc. Answering such probing questions as "Who is George Bush and why did he marry a woman who looks like his mother?," "Read My Lips" was written by Matt Tolbert, an advertising executive who also writes a syndicated daily business cartoon entitled "Everybody's Business." "Read My Lips" was illustrated by Neil Grahame, an award-winning editorial cartoonist, and Mark Braun, perhaps best known for his work on "Ghostbusters" and "Married With Children." "Read My Lips! The Unofficial Cartoon Biography of George Bush" will be available in comic book stores, book stores and at newsstands both in an over-sized paperback edition priced at $4.95 and in a magazine edition priced at $3.95. Taking an obviously comedic biographical bent, the book covers "Poppy's" life from the time he was just a gleam in his father's eye to a thousand points of light and beyond. Commented Rosenberg, "We look at 'Read My Lips!' as a book which can be enjoyed both by George Bush supporters and by those who already consider him a comic book character. Although Malibu Comics has primarily focused on fictional comic book figures, we are now actively pursuing a wide variety of reality-based series and special issues, and are proud to include 'Read My Lips' among them." Based in Westlake Village, Calif., Malibu Comics Entertainment is a multimedia company formed by the recent merger of Malibu Graphics Publishing Group and Acme Interactive, a leading video game creator and developer. Malibu Comics has garnered national attention for granting unusual creative freedom and creator-ownership opportunities to writers and artists. Enjoying its greatest success and growth to date, the company publishes comics spanning such diverse stylistic realms as superheroes, science fiction, humor, adventure, action and fantasy. When seven of Marvel Comics' top artists formed their own company earlier this year, they selected Malibu as their publisher. The two debut comic book titles to result from this new arrangement both became immediate best sellers and broke sales records nationwide. -0- 9/10/92 /EDITOR'S NOTE: For a copy of "Read My Lips!" and/or for any interviews, contact Peter Berk or Mitch Zamarin at The Lippin Group./ /CONTACT: Peter Berk of The Lippin Group/LA, 213-965-1990, or Mitch Zamarin of The Lippin Group/NY, 212-986-7080, both for Malibu Comics/ CO: Malibu Comics ST: California IN: PUB ENT SU:
