MAKING ACCESS ACCESSIBLE: PINNACLE PUBLISHING LAUNCHES SMART ACCESS

SEATTLE, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- When Pinnacle Publishing mailed the charter issue of Smart Access(TM), it launched the leading technical resource on the hottest computer-database product to appear in years, the company said.
Since its November 1992 introduction at the high-tech tradeshow, COMDEX, Microsoft(R) Access(TM) has received unprecedented acclaim. Database veterans hail the software's powerful user interface, automated report creation and robust relational querying capability. Smart Access helps Microsoft Access developers make the most of Access database applications.
Access reads several database formats -- including dBASE(R), Paradox(R), Btrieve(R) and SQL/Serve -- which has attracted many corporate users with pressing data-conversion needs. "Smart Access readers want to get the most out of Access so they can do their job better," said Paul Litwin, editor of Pinnacle's fifth database periodical. "That person might be a small-business owner, corporate MIS manager or independent database developer." Smart Access covers such topics as improving performance, how to get the most out of forms and reports, moving to Access from other software platforms, and reviews of Access and add-on software.
Many Smart Access contributors are software developers and Access experts in their own right. As editor Litwin, himself a database developer and consultant, explained, "Our writers have been spending time with Access since its release and even before that, as beta testers. They've been pulling it apart, figuring out how to get things done. They'll pass along what they know to our readers."
Like all of Pinnacle's technical journals, Smart Access is independent of software manufacturer (in this case Microsoft) and contains no advertising. "Being independent lets us tell it like it is," Litwin said. "We're not looking over our shoulder to see if somebody's going to be upset with us."
Included with every issue of Smart Access: a Companion Disk, which contains all the macros, forms, reports, code and sample applications covered in the issue. New subscribers who take advantage of the special charter offer will receive $60 worth of companion disks free with a $79 annual subscription. The disk, which includes a cumulative index, saves readers the trouble of copying lines and lines of computer code from the pages of the newsletter, as most high-tech magazines and books require. "Since we don't have to print code, there's space for more articles," added Litwin.
Pinnacle Publishing Inc., 18000 72nd Ave. S., Kent, WA 98032, is a leading provider of information products and software tools for the personal-computer developer market. The company was founded in 1986.
